ROTTEN CANDY CANES

These last few nights have been awful for sleep.
I wake up about three or so and lay there for hours.
The full moon is still eight days away, so what gives?
As soon as my eyes open, my mind just sprints. All over the place. From which shoes in my closet are most comfortable (?!) to what I might eat for breakfast and which tea I'll choose. I eventually move on to the most daunting thoughts of all: how to organize my days. Before I know it I'm far, far away from sleep.
This morning I heard a robin singing very, very early and then watched as my windows lit themselves from without.
If you ever want to drive me to madness, deprive me of sleep.
